Mexico Rolls Out Billion-Peso Plan to Back Its Heavy Vehicle Industry

Mexico’s government unveiled a new support package on Thursday aimed at strengthening the country’s motor transport sector. The program focuses specifically on manufacturers and owners of heavy vehicles.

According to Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard, the initiative combines tax incentives for local producers with protections against foreign imports. In total, the package includes 2 billion pesos ($112.41 million) in tax deductions, along with 250 million pesos in direct investment.

Beyond the financial incentives, the program also encourages the purchase of new heavy vehicles. As a result, it aims to modernize the country’s freight fleet while shielding domestic manufacturers from outside competition.

President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed strong support for the measures. She said the program would boost commercial vehicle production across the country. On top of that, she noted that upgrading heavy-duty vehicles would help cut pollutant emissions and improve freight transport conditions nationwide.
