Brazil’s national transport system will take center stage at the upcoming COP30 climate conference in Belém, Pará, this November. The delegation will highlight the sector’s growing role in energy transition and decarbonization, positioning transportation as a key driver of Brazil’s sustainable development goals.
The Transport System — composed of the National Confederation of Transport (CNT), SEST SENAT, and the Institute of Transport and Logistics (ITL) — represents one of the country’s most influential networks in logistics, professional training, and policy research. Its presence at COP30 underscores the sector’s capacity to bring together government, private industry, academia, and civil society around climate solutions.
A sector ready for transformation
Transportation accounts for about 11% of Brazil’s total carbon emissions, but experts see enormous potential for change. According to studies by the Transport System, emissions could drop by as much as 68% by 2050 through the adoption of over 90 initiatives focused on logistics efficiency, fleet modernization, and alternative fuels.
Among the priorities at COP30 are expanding the use of low-carbon fuels such as ethanol, biomethane, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and renewable hydrogen. The system also advocates for new investments in infrastructure and public policies that guarantee safer highways, fair access to sustainable mobility, and climate justice during the transition to clean energy.
Building resilient and clean mobility
The COP30 discussions will emphasize the need for resilient transport infrastructure capable of withstanding extreme weather events. The goal is to prevent logistical breakdowns, like those recently seen in southern Brazil, and to ensure that climate adaptation goes hand-in-hand with decarbonization.
At the conference, the Brazilian Transport System will launch the Station of Development, a dedicated space inside the COP30 Green Zone. The initiative aims to promote dialogue and innovation, connecting experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to share strategies for reducing the environmental footprint of mobility and improving energy efficiency.
Through this initiative, Brazil’s transport sector seeks to strengthen its position as a global leader in sustainable logistics. The expectation is that new partnerships and public policies emerging from COP30 will accelerate decarbonization and make Brazilian transport cleaner, smarter, and more competitive on the world stage.
